Congratulations! We have reached the end of this journey and most of you have not only survived but have produced some amazing work that I can't wait to show off tomorrow.
Some things to keep in mind...
* Remember to bring your reading logs if you did not have them today.
* Remember to come in the morning before going to first period to set up your technology.
I am so very proud of your hard work!
Love you much!

Things We Need To Think About...
Considering this is the first time that we have hosted a Reading Fair, there are many things that Mrs. Canup and I have discovered about the process.
We...
1. need two more class days to complete the project.
2. need students to use writing days in class to actually write.
3. would like for students to meet with a judge and present the project instead of just setting it up in the media center.
4. should probably have a hospitality room for the judges.
5. need to secure clip boards for the judging.
6. need to consider the master calendar when deciding a date. Moving chairs for the faculty meeting is not going to be fun.
7. should assign students a number for their board before judging.
8. need to order more boards for students who can't provide their own.
9. should encourage the kids to double check their spelling before glueing materials to the board; the title is Fallen Angels, not Fallen Angles.
10. need to add time for a Museum Walk.
YOU FILL IN THE BLANK...

Almost There...
Tomorrow is the last day to work on your project. It must be at its assigned station before you leave the class unless you are staying after school to set up your board.
You all have been working very hard; I am very impressed by some of the work that you have completed so far and can't wait to see the final result.

| Caleb and TJ glue letters to their board. They used the Cricut machine to make their letters. |
Reminders:
Next year we need to tell students to bring in a zip-lock bag to store letters and cutout shapes.

Block 2 Reading Fair Moments
Character Development
Character development is the collection of features that bring the people or animals to life. It’s not just their physical features, but their mental features and their actions. Character is something you can figure out by paying attention to what they say, what they do, what they think and feel, how they interact with other characters and with their surroundings, and what others say about them.
Methods of Setting
Setting
Five Basic Methods
1) Geographical Location : exactly where the story takes place; location could be placed on a map
2) Time Period: when the story takes place
3) Socio-economics: interaction of the characters of the story – wealth, cliques, social status
4) Specific Location : exact place of the events happening
5) Weather : season, storms, heat, etc

Reading Fair Guidelines
2012 Guidelines
· Storyboards should be constructed on a tri-fold project board. These boards are the same type boards that students use for the science fair. These may be purchased at any discount or craft store. If you are unable to purchase a board, please see Mrs. Canup or Mrs. Lawhorn.
· Storyboards should be colorful and interesting. Models, shadowboxes, and illustrations that fit in the middle of the board are allowed. Students are also allowed to have one laptop computer or I pad in the middle of their board to present the technological component.
· No items may hang over the edge of the table or be placed on the floor, with the exception of a power cord for the technological devices.
· Identifying information (name of the student(s), grade level, teacher’s name, and school name) should be labeled on the back of the storyboard. If this information appears on the front of the board or in any part of the front display, the project will be disqualified.
· Students are only allowed to share a fiction book from the approved list of books distributed by the teacher.
· We encourage students to accompany their projects at the community show night as visitors may have questions about the project; however, it is not required.
· Items on the board must be typed. No handwritten entries will be accepted.

Good afternoon students,
Mrs. Canup and I are super excited that you have joined us for the first ever Reading Fair at EJCHS. My goal is to post the events of the day for every day during the fair. We shall see if I succeed. Today in class:
* Books were distributed based on student ranking activity. I believe that most of you received your first choice. The books made available to you were: A Walk to Remember, Buried Onions, The Crazy Horse Electric Game, Fallen Angels, Imitate the Tiger, Speak, Stargirl, and The Secret Life of Bees.
* We spent about an hour reading. You all did an amazing job and seemed to be lost in your books which made me very happy!
* Reading logs were distributed. We also taught you how to use them. Keeping up with them is your responsibility.
Again, we are looking forward to a great 2012 Reading Fair. Please remember that you can add productive and valuable comments to the blog for extra credit.
Happy Reading
